This same problem arose 2 or 3 years ago for me. It had no trouble codes and really no problems at all. Just the light was on.. I had a parts car so I pulled one of the rear wheel sensors. Got under my good car, unplugged the rear driver side, then pluged in the spare wheel sensor. Started the car...light was still on,so I plugged it back in. I TURNED OFF THE CAR. Then did the same to the passenger rear. Started the car..The light was off. So I installed it and the light has been off since. It is a 2001 model. It could be the front sensor as well. The 2 rear are made the same and the 2 front are made the same. Front are easy to change and the rear is just a bit harder but still easy.

The ABS light coming on means that the abs is not working. When braking hard the car could lock up the tires and slide.
One of 3 problems: wheel sensor is bad, abs cables, or hubs.
The ABS light is most likely on because of low voltage, same reason for the battery light to be on. Get your alternator tested.
ABS stands for Automatic Braking System. The ABS light in a 1997 Ford Explorer will come on when this braking system is activated.
The abs light flickering on and off is caused by a problem in the abs system. Check the computer coeds to see if a problem shows. Check the abs sensors at each wheel.

Your ABS light may be on because you are low on brake fluid. Another reason the light may be on is because your brakes are failing.
