God is not ready for him.

He is a remarkable person because he is so brilliant. The UK government has kept him alive on machines (breathing, feeding, & speech) for decades because he is able to continue using his brain for scientific research. They give him round the clock care and have paid millions of dollars to keep him going. Both he and the govt. think it's worth it. Most ALS patients don't have the resources or the will to put themselves through that.

So I really don't agree with the article that Hawking is a realistic "role model" for ALS patients. He's special but not typical.

Stephen Hawking does not rely much on the government for medical care anymore. He used to when he was younger and less well known, and the government care wasn't much better than that of other ASL patients, his wife had to take care of him for long without extra help. He had several charity funds pay for adaptations. Now he is famous he pays his own staff and well known companies give him free stuff because its free advertising. Noone gets a team of 40 medical people to travel around from the government, not even Hawking. He pays them himself.

Hawking has has a-typical ASL from the beginning, his disease did not progress as fast as that of other patients from the beginning. He was said to live only 2.5 years, but after that time his disease had not progressed that much, so he married and got his job. So he is not a good example. Most people do not have that luck.

Hawking is an atheist, god has nothing to do with it.
