Bulk and Spike were added into Power Rangers Samurai because they were looking for two characters that would serve as comic relief characters and it was decided that they would bring Paul Schrier back to reprise his role as Bulk however they decided to create the new character of Spike in order to serve as Bulk's sidekick since Jason Narvy was not able to return to his role as Skull full time.
