Although he isn't necessarily a hero in the usual sense of that word, C S Lewis is widely respected for his explanation of the existence of God and defense of Christianity. On the other hand, his ideas about female clergy and the role of music in worship (he was opposed to both) would be considered out of date by most Christians today.
