Why is carbon dioxide increasing?

It is also helpful to know how academia works. Every published paper and data set is verified by other independent research groups long before it makes it into something like an IPCC report.

• We are burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). This releases carbon that had been buried safely underground for 300 million years.
• Deforestation. We are still cutting down trees which used to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
