Why is CPR so critical?

The first and for most reason is that the brain begins to suffer brain damage after 4-6 minuets without oxygen. The main way oxygen gets to your brain is through your blood stream. The thing that moves the blood to your brain is your heart. If your heart stops pumping, then you go brain dead after 4-6 because of lack of O2. There fore, if you start CPR right away, then the leftover oxygen that is in the blood stream can get pumped to the brain and keep it alive until electricity can be applied (i.e. AED) or other interventions. If your brain dies, and you live, what have you really saved?

CPR should be initiated when?

CPR should be initiated when a person is unresponsive and not breathing or only gasping. It is crucial to assess the situation quickly; if the person shows no signs of life, such as movement or normal breathing, immediate CPR can help maintain blood flow to vital organs until emergency medical services arrive. Time is critical, so starting CPR promptly increases the chances of survival.

Identify two critical concepts for performing CPR?

The most critical is call 911 (or if you are in a hospital or care facility, follow your protocols). You aren't going to save them alone. Next would be deep rapid compressions. Keep that blood moving and oxygen to the brain. There are many aspects to CPR that are critical, these are the most critical in my opinion.Edit: As always, keep yourself safe. That should be first. :)

What are the differences in CPR for an unconscious adult with a pulse and an unconscious adult without a pulse?

CPR for the lay person, denoted just CPR, there is no longer a pulse check for an adult, so once CPR is started, it will be continued unless the person begins to show signs of life. In CPR-FPR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) there is still a circulation check, so RB at 1 breath / 5 seconds is part of that certification. To specifically answer your question, most people would do CPR and not check for a pulse on an adult, because it is not part of the curriculum. For a professional person, they would perform rescue breathing with a pulse and CPR without a pulse.
