Throughout history, China has been viewed as a country of great potential, having often held a position of power and leading technological innovation. For many complicated reasons, in modern times, China has not (arguably) lived up to its potential, as it was asleep. But it would appear that China's recent development may be the first signs of its awakening. A similar comparison was made by the Japanese military after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. America had (until then) remained neutral about WWII and had a weak military, but that soon changed - the giant had awakened.
