In May 2010 the UK General Election resulted in a "hung parliament" where no one party had an overall majority. This led to the Conservative Party negotiating with the Liberal Democrats (a rival Party) to form a Coalition and create a majority.
Although the Conservative Party did not receive enough votes to provide them with a majority by themselves, they did receive the largest percentage of votes out of all the Parties.
