The Delaware State Capitol is the state capitol building of the U.S. state of Delaware, housing the state's General Assembly. Commonly known as the Legislative Hall, it is located in the state capital of Dover on Court Street. Despite its colonial appearance, the building was actually completed in 1933 during the Great Depression.
Visitors can tour the State Capitol by advance reservation. Walk-in tours are subject to staff availability.
Delaware's Old State House is now a museum and is located on The Green in downtown Dover. The building was originally commissioned by Kent County as the Kent County Court House, and was constructed from 1787 to 1791. The governments of Kent County and the State of Delaware shared used of the building from 1791, when the name changed to The State House, until 1873. The state continued to use the building until 1933, when the General Assembly moved to Legislative Hall.[1]
The Old State House has been restored to an 18th-century appearance, and includes a courtroom and the former chambers of the state's legislature. The House chamber contains portraits by Thomas Sully of Commodore Jacob Jones and Commodore Thomas Macdonough, Delaware heroes who served in the War of 1812.
