Hera was as dangerous as any deity in the Greco-Roman pantheon. She was highly vindictive of Zeus' adultery, as seen in stories like that of Heracles or Io. Heracles was plagued with troubles of Hera's doing because he was the son of Zeus and Alcumena. Io was raped by Zeus, and in retribution, Hera turned Io into a cow and made her go mad. Io was eventually saved, but first had to suffer Hera's anger.On the other hand, Hera was a patron of women, especially wives and mothers, and would be invoked for protection of pregnant women, although other deities existed who were patrons of childbirth specifically. These two seemingly bipolar roles probably stem from Greek ideas of women as chattel without rights (though not without responsibilities).Hera, as with all gods and goddesses, is mythical.
