DB is a very important character in "The Catcher in the Rye" because he brings out the height and climax of Holden's feelings towards phonies and phoniness in general. Holden is extremely judgemental of his older brother, he strongly feels that DB is a sell out because he sells his ideas (stories) to production and publishing companies.

Holden is contemptuous of DB because he believes his brother has sold out his integrity by working in Hollywood as a screenwriter. Holden values authenticity and sees DB's decision to work in a superficial industry as a betrayal of his values. He views DB as being phony and lacking in moral integrity.

Who is DB in the novel Catcher in the Rye?

You should read the book instead of asking this. But if you really need to know, Holden Caulfield, the main character, decides he does not have any dreams or aspirations to be a classic adult, that is, settle down and have some pups and work a factory job. The only way he feels he can make a difference in the world and help humanity is to play bodyguard on a rye-field he made up in his own head. In this dream-place, there is a rye field atop a cliff, and there are children playing in the rye-field. Because of the innocence and obliviousness of the children, Holden fears they would just run right off the cliff whilst playing, and his dream job would to be The Catcher in the Rye(field) so no children would get hurt. Seriously, just read it, it's a very short book.

Whom does Holden Caulfied love?

If you are refering to the young man from "Catcher in the Rye" By J.D. Salinger, this is my answer. Holden loves few people. Among them are his sister, Pheobe, his brothers, DB and Allie, his parents and his friend, Jane. When speaking to Stradlaters about his (Stradlater's) date with Jane, Holden expresses jelousy wich leads me to make the conclusion that he has powerful unexpressed feelings for her.
