"Ressurection" is not historical term, it's a religious term.
Architects do not know that Jesus resurrected from the dead. The fact of the resurrection is a matter of faith. If there were a "fact" their would be no faith.
In Acts the second chapter, verses 30 and 31. Some translate this as Jesus was in Hell. This corresponds to a prophecy in Psalms 16:10 that King David was inspired to write. The fact that Jesus was in Sheol or Hell for 3 days shows that it would correspond to the common grave and not a place a torment.
A:Christians believe that Jesus came back on the third day after his crucifixion; in fact this is considered the most significant event in Christian faith. Others say that there is no evidence for this resurrection and that it did not really happen.
The gospels do not show that the resurrection of Jesus was historical. In fact, the widely divergent descriptions of the appearances of the risen Jesus do more to suggest that it was not historical. At the very least, the discrepancies in the different stories show that they really knew nothing about it.
St. Thomas's deeds as Our Lord's Apostle are not really mentioned in the Gospels, other than the fact that he doubted Our Lord's Resurrection, until He Appeared to him. After the Lord's Ascension & the Coming Of the Holy Spirit, St. Thomas travelled to India to preach the Gospel.
On the morning of the third day after His crucifixion several women went to take care of the body. This was put off due to the fact that the crucifixion came just prior to the Sabbath, which is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. This mandated that no work could be done. When the women got to the tomb the stone had been rolled away despite the two Roman guards standing outside. The tomb was empty. The shroud that the body had been wrapped in was lying in a heap. But the napkin (facial cloth that covered the deceased's head) was folded neatly and was laying nearby in the tomb. I imagine Jesus folded the facial napkin as a sign that His body had not been stolen, since no tomb robber would take the time to fold and place it neatly like it was found. After the resurrection Jesus walked the earth for 40 days and then ascended to the Father in heaven.
The implication of the question is that the resurrection was somehow added as an additional doctrine. It must be stated very clearly. Without the resurrection as an actual historical fact there is no Christianity. Jesus would essentially still be dead. This is why so many people go to so much effort to disprove it, even if unsuccessful.
Certainly we are thankful that Jehovah resurrected him, but in fact the only thing he commanded his followers to observe was his death. (Luke 22:17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26) It is interesting that there is no example among the first century Christians of them commemorating either the birth or the resurrection of Jesus, but only his death as he commanded.
Doesn't have to be. Fact is something that can be tested and confirmed. A belief is a hunch, an idea, a theory. The existence of the Moon is a fact. The existence of angels is a belief.
AnswerThis passage begins with the "cleansing of the Temple". In the synoptic gospels, it occurred just before the arrest and trial of Jesus, and in fact was largely the reason for that arrest. In John, Jesus overturned the tables and drove the moneychangers from the Temple right at the beginning of his three-year minnistry. The author of John's Gospel is well known for his indulgence in plays on words. All the gospels were written after the destruction of the Temple, and so, beginning with Mark, incorporate a prophecy that the Temple would be destroyed. However, to John, the real temple is the body, so he has Jesus refer to his own future crucifixion and resurrection. He says that if you destroy this temple (which the Jews understand to be the Temple in which Jesus overturned the tables, but which he really meant to be his own body) then in three days he would raise the temple up again. john says that later, after the resurrection, the disciples remembered Jesus' words and believed.
Christians believe that when Jesus died he freed them from sin. They are not celebrating the fact that jesus died, they are celebrating the fact that Jesus made it possible for them to live forever in heaven.
The death and Resurrection of Christ is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew (Chapters 27-28), Mark (15-16), Luke (23-24), and John (19-20). It is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15. Answer2: FOUR REASONS WHY WE KNOW THAT JESUS WAS RESURRECTED (1) Jesus' resurrection happened "according to the Scriptures." God's Word foretold the resurrection. For example, David wrote that God's "loyal one" would not be left in the Grave. (Read Psalm 16:10.) On the day of Pentecost in the year 33, Peter explained that the "loyal one" was Jesus when he said: "[David] foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he forsaken in the Grave nor did his flesh see corruption."-Acts 2:23-27, 31 (2) Many eyewitnesses saw the resurrected Jesus. During the 40 days after his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples in the garden near his tomb, on the road to the village of Emmaus, and in other places. (Luke 24:13-15) He spoke to individuals, including Peter, and to groups. Once, Jesus even appeared to a crowd of more than 500 people. We cannot ignore the fact that so many eyewitnesses saw the resurrected Jesus. (3) The disciples zealously preached about Jesus' resurrection. They were persecuted, they suffered, and some were killed because of their preaching work. Think about this: If Jesus had not been raised to life, would Peter have risked his life to preach about Christ's resurrection to the same people who hated Jesus and plotted his death? Peter and the other disciples were confident that Jesus was alive and was overseeing the preaching work. Also, Jesus' resurrection gave his followers the strong hope that they too would be resurrected. For example, Stephen died convinced that he would be resurrected.-Acts 7:55-60. (4) Jesus' resurrection confirms all that he taught. One Bible scholar wrote that if Christ was not resurrected, then Christians are foolish people who believe a big lie. Paul wrote that if Jesus were not resurrected, the preaching and the faith of Christians would be worthless. In fact, the Gospel accounts would simply be a sad story of a good and wise man who was killed by his enemies. But Jesus was resurrected, which confirms that everything he taught was true.-Read 1 Corinthians 15:14, 15, 20. Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." (John 11:25) This promise of Jesus is guaranteed to come true. Jehovah has given Jesus the power to resurrect those who will rule in heaven and the billions who will live on earth. Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection guarantee that there will be no more death. So we can have the strength to endure any trial and even to face death with courage!
