Because men are sinful and wicked
Jonathan Edwards argued that there was a need for people to go through a religious revival or awakening. The world had changed so much, and he felt that it was time to return to God.
In interview, Edwards stated that it was thinking about it rationally that made him realise that god was very unlikely to exist. So, "thinking about it" is the answer.
The sermon of Sinners In the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards is a well thought out and arranged sermon. It is so well done it is still applicable today. Any sermon which can stand the test of time is an excellent sermon. People think that the title represents a preacher screaming, ranting and raving. That is not true. Jonathan Edwards told this sermon very eloquently and calmly. It was fitting for the literature of his day and the literature of our day. See attached related link so you can see what I am writing about. Thank you.
The central message of the sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards is to instill fear in the listeners about the consequences of sin and the wrath of God. It emphasizes the idea of God's supreme power and the urgency for sinners to repent to avoid eternal damnation.
Jonathan Edwards used various allusions in "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," such as the metaphor of God holding sinners over the pit of hell like a spider or an arrow, referring to biblical verses. He also alluded to the sense of immediacy and uncertainty of life, comparing it to a thread that can be severed at any moment. Additionally, Edwards referenced historical events, like the destruction of the Spanish Armada, to emphasize the power and wrath of God.
This is from the writings of Jonathan Edwards, a Puritan, who gave sermons including the Eternity of Hell Torments. Still read and discussed, his aim was apparently to shock and awe people who were not saved about what awaited them if they did not become believers in God.
I believe it helped them to see how God feels about sin, and it made them fear. So, I guess it helped them to live a better Christian life.
BcoZ dat god is angry!
well first of all god is not an angry god. he loved you so much that he made you and sent his one and only son to die for us so that we could live with him in heaven AKA paradise. you need to accept that gift and become his child.I think this question is about a book called "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" by Jonathan Edwards. You can buy the book - see 'related links' below - the size is 8"X 5" and it is 22 pages long. Also the God of the Bible is a God of wrath/anger they are attributes of God."There are more more references in scripture to the anger, fury and wrath of God than there are to His love and tenderness - A W Pink "The Attributes of God" page 75.God is good to those who trust Him and terrible to those who do not.
Edwards is Jennifer's last name before she marries Jonathan in the television series 'Hart to Hart'. Her husband's last name is Hart. Each one has pursued their own separate careers: Jonathan as CEO and Jennifer as journalist. So once married, Jennifer prefers to go by the name of 'Edwards-Hart'.
Because Satan hates it when he loses souls to God.
No, David Brainerd never married. He was very fond of Jonathan Edwards's daughter Jerusha, however. (This was also the name of his sister...so not to be confused). Jerusah Edwards was only 17 when Brainerd was invited to the Edwards home. He was dying of tuberculosis and she tried unsuccessfully to nurse him back to life. He died when he was 29...in the Edwards's home.
