Peeta even got a beating from his mother and gave her bread when they were young, when Katniss was 11 and on the verge of death because of starvation. Peeta even vowed to protect Katniss. He wanted her to go on becasue he understands how much katniss cares for her family. in my opinion Peeta and katniss make a better couple than Gale and Katniss.
