martin luthur king wanted equal rights for everyone. The awareness of other young black students of the black freedom struggle, inspired his own political activism and altered his sense of racial identity and destiny. His intellectual level gained him respect. People listened to him and he to them. He became the simbol of modern african-american freedom struggle. he became their voice. King was an exceptionally gifted, fascinating, and courageous individual who challenged authority and took such controversial stands as opposing American intervention in Vietnam and mobilizing the Poor People's Campaign of 1968. He was also a leader best understood in the context of African-American history and as the product of the social movements that he has come to symbolize.
