Specifically, Oedipus becomes the disgraced King of Thebes. But he cannot be dismissed or ignored historically. He rescues the city from the monstrous Sphinx and from a pestilence of ailing livestock, dying children and failing crops.

He begs Oedipus to lift the curse that he put on him and his brother, but Oedipus says that they deserve their fate for casting their Father out. Polynices exits, in a blind rage. Oedipus reads the thunderstorm, that has broken out, Zeus thinks it is time for Oedipus to die. Then Oedipus dies, which is the tragic end to a tragic story. This story is then followed by "Antigone" which is the outcome of Polynices and Eteocles fight and the death of the entire family.
