Rudolph is a classic example of an underdog story. People often enjoy seeing the little guy win in the end.
In the movie "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" Donner is Rudolph father, but in the song Rudolph's father is unknown. Male Reindeer lose there horns in late November and grow them back in the Spring, Females keep their horns all year long. Have a look at Santa's Reindeer, they all have horns. So.... they are all Female!!!!! None of them could have been the father. Sorry for busting a few bubbles, but this is the actual truth about REAL Reindeer.
Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose and if you ever saw it you would even say it glows all of the other reigndeer used to laugh and call him names they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say, "Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, "Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer you'll go down in history!

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer(reindeer!) Had a very shiny nose(like a light bulb) And if you ever seen it(seen it) You would even say it glows(like a flashlight!) All of the other reindeer(reindeer) Used to laugh and call him names(like pinocchio!) They never let poor rudolph(rudolph) Join in any reindeer games(like monopoly!) Then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say(ho,ho,ho) or (in his underpants!) Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight Then all the reindeer loved him(loved him) And they shouted out with glee(yippee!) Rudolph the red nose reindeer(reindeer) You'll go down in history(like Columbus!)
Rudolph is depicted as a male in the cartoon, (he falls in love with the little doe.) However, at Christmas time, all reindeer with antlers are female. Males shed their antlers before winter.
he is a reindeer
I do not believe so. Jack frost is believed to be a man while Rudolph is a reindeer.
I don't think Rudolph substituted for a reindeer that became ill. According to the song, Rudolph was added as guide on a foggy Christmas Eve because of his "nose so bright"

== == Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was a character invented in 1939 by Robert May, an employee of the Montgomery Ward department store chain. Rudolph appeared in a give-away promotional booklet for the Christmas holiday season that year and became enormously popular through the years. The other eight reindeers"used to laugh and call him names" and wouldn't let him play any "reindeer games". But there was this one "foggy Christmas night" where Rudolph (with his shiny nose) jumped in to lend a hand and lead Santa so he could deliver his gifts - which was well accepted by the reindeer that once gave him a bad time. From that point forward, the other reindeer accepted Rudolph and he would be forever known as the 9th reindeer.
Rudolph has a red nose that shines so bright, some even say it glows!
