The legend of Saint Valentine (Valentinus) begins with his arrest and subsequent healing of the judge's blind daughter. As a result of the healing, the judge released freed all the Christian inmates under his authority and the judge and his entire household were baptized. Valentinus was later arrested again for preaching his faith and prophecies and sentenced to beatings and beheading unless he renounced his faith. He refused and Emperor Claudius had his execution carried out. Several variations of the story exist, but all stay with the realm that Valentinus healed and stayed true to his faith, even under the duress of torture and death.
