Many reasons:
- he come from a Dark family (from his mother's part)
- he loved Dark magic
- he wanted power
- he was a Slytherin
- he was bullied by the so-called 'good guys'
Because he wanted to become one. Sure, he has changed sides since that.
He grew up unloved by anybody because there was nobody for him. His mother was dead, his father had run away before he was born and his mothers family knew nothing of his existence - nor did they care because he was a half-blood.
He has always thought his father was the wizard but when he discovered he was a muggle and had run away and left his mother to die he became angry. Never having loved anybody or been loved he did not feel any compassion when he killed his father and his grandparents, nor when he killed his uncle because his uncle hated him for being a half-blood and his mother for being a traitor.
Voldemort then hated anybody who wasn't magic or who wasn't on his side simply because of his father leaving his mother.
Severus Snape never became evil, he just pretended to be evil to get information from Voldemort and pass it onto Dumbledore. He was proven a very good assistant to Voldemort, though Voldemort killed him because he thought Snape was the master of the Elder Wand, although he wasn't. Snape did a great job pretending he was a Death Eater, by killing Dumbledore for Dumbledore's own significance. This happened for two reasons. Mainly since Dumbledore had touched a ring, a horcrux, and would eventually die. He did not want to die an embarrassing death, so he had Snape kill him. This also proved Snape to be a Death Eater, although he wasn't. Harry Potter eventually found out Snape was a "good guy" by pulling a memory out of him in his last seconds of life after being bitten in the neck by Nagini, Voldemort's snake and horcrux. He looked at an old memory from when Snape was younger, and talking to his mother who he truly loved his whole life. He found out all the good things that looked bad that Snape did and why he did them. These question's are completely answered in book seven of the Harry Potter series, the Deathly Hallows. It is in the chapter called, the Prince's Tale.
First off, remember he is good.
ok so he joined the dark side, because he wanted some power, soem authority as jk Rowling reveals through the books, he was taunted and bullied especially by James potter, and this is why severus hates harry so much. But James saved his life and is constantly tryign to make it equal by saving harry. but yh he wanted some power and get revenge on those who taunted him.
dumbledore made him see his error and he joined the good side, but so not to be killed by the dakr lord and to help the good side turned spy, so he now spies for the dark lord and *SPOILER* he and dumbledore had planned that snape was to kill dumbledore as dumledore only had a few months to live and did not want to damage Draco's soul. snape is eventually killed by voldermort, as he needed to take the elder wand from him, but could not do so with him alive.
Severus Snape wasn't evil at all. If you read to the end of the series, you will see that he was a very good man.
