Because it has a nucleus with a membrane around it.

To remember eukaryotic: eu = new + karyo = nut. The nucleus is the "nut". More primitive cells are called prokaryotes because they don't have a "nut". They have DNA but it doesn't have a membrane around it. Pro = before. They came before in evolutionary terms.
