Why is Sunday the Christian day of worship when it's the first day of the week and not on the seventh day that God sanctified Genesis 2v3?

ANSWER: The branch of Christianity considered "orthodox", from which most contemporary Christian denominations can be traced, is the result of a political conspiracy between the Roman Church and the Emperor Constantine around 300AD. Reference the Council of Nicea in a non-church controlled reference and you'll get the picture. That's how the pagan holiday that is celebrated on December 25 became "Christmas", where "Easter" came from and also how "Sunday" took the place of the "Sabbath" of the Jews. It's also how pagan myths were grafted into the teachings of a Jewish rabbi named Yeshua. ANSWER:

But wasn't the Sabbath made for Jews?

Mk:2:27: And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Notice, Jesus said That the Sabbath was made for man.

But didn't Jesus change it to Sunday while on earth?

Jesus said "Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:18-19

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips." Psalms 89:34.Notice, the Ten Commandments came from His lips. Exodus 20:1 says, "And God spake all these words, saying ... [the Ten Commandments follow in verses 2-17]."

But what about that verse in Colossians?

Col:2:16-17: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

God's seventh-day Sabbath was made before sin entered, and therefore could foreshadow nothing about deliverance from sin. That's why Colossians chapter 2 differentiates and specifically mentions the Sabbaths that were "a shadow." These seven yearly Sabbaths which were abolished are listed in Leviticus chapter 23.

But what day is the Sabbath?

"The seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God." Exodus 20:10. "And when the sabbath was past, ...very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher." Mark 16:1, 2.

Notice, this says "when the Sabbath was past" ......very early in the morning the first day of the week,(Sunday).So when Sunday came, the Sabbath was over.

What day did the early church keep as the Sabbath?

"And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath." "And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God." Acts 13:42, 44. "And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4.

Notice,the Jews and the Greeks came together to hear the word of God on the Sabbath.Since the only day mentioned in scripture as the sabbath is the seventh day,it would be safe to answer in the weight of scriptural evidence that the seventh day is the Sabbath.

Knowing full well that Jerusalem would be destroyed by Rome in A.D. 70, Jesus warned His followers of that time, saying, "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day." Matthew 24:20. Jesus made it clear that He intended for the Sabbath to be kept even 40 years after His resurrection. In fact, there is no hint or suggestion anywhere in the Scriptures that Jesus, His Father, or the apostles ever (at any time, under any circumstances) changed the holy seventh-day Sabbath to any other day.

But what about celebrating the Sabbath on Sunday in honor of the resurrection?

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." Romans 6:3-6.

Christ gave the practice of baptism in honor of His death, burial, and resurrection.

But is it important to keep?

"Sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4. "The wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23. "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." James 2:10. "Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps." 1 Peter 2:21. "He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." Hebrews 5:9.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15. "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Romans 14:12. "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." James 4:17. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14. "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God." Revelation 14:12.
