Universal season passes are significantly cheaper than Disneyland season passes (though the one-day admission prices are pretty comparable). One conclusion it's possible to draw from this is that people are willing to pay about the same price to go to Universal ... once ... as they are to go to Disneyland ... once, but that Universal has significantly less value to the repeat visitor than Disneyland does.
I first visited Universal Studios Hollywood in 1996. By noon I was thinking about getting an annual pass. By about 3 in the afternoon I realized "I have done everything here I have any real interest in doing ... I guess I'll spend the rest of the day re-riding Back to the Future and ET, and maybe watch a couple of the shows I skipped earlier in the day. Annual pass? What was I THINKING?" I haven't been back since.

In fairness: Universal has added quite a few attractions since 1996 (though they also removed the only two attractions from then that I felt any real desire to repeat, and Disneyland has some new additions since then too, including a whole new park and ... in the next few years ... Star Wars land). If you or your kid is a huge Harry Potter fan and doesn't much care for Star Wars (in other words, more or less the exact opposite of me) it would be entirely reasonable for you to conclude that Universal is better than Disneyland. Wrong, but reasonable.
