Wikipedia is not considered reliable because it is not considered a credible source. Anyone can edit information in Wikipedia, so some information may be out of line. Encyclopedias should be used to understand a subject, but further research should be used to make the information credible.

Wikipedia is as reliable as possible given that almost anyone can get into the system and change the information. Editors and administrators may not correct errors or disputed entries as quickly as they should. Wikipedia is a wiki, meaning it can be edited by anyone. Wikipedia has many moderators that read over articles to ensure their contents are accurate and readable. Most articles on Wikipedia are very accurate. Some may have small errors or conflicting information. In general, going to Wikipedia is a great way to start a research project. Often, they have many links to other sites on the particular topic you are researching.

It is believed that Wikipedia is not a reliable source because any person can update it. A person may update a page but not actually know what they are talking about and when you use the page to do a project you use false information. This is not entirely true because Wikipedia is monitored and you need to submit a bibliography with your information.

It can be a reliable source but here are some reasons why it also might not be the best choice.

1. people can edit the content

2. the articles may not be entirely correct

3. it may have a lot of aticles about various things but they don't have articles on quite a few things.

It's not reliable because anyone can enter information onto the website, just like this website. It's a good place to startlooking for information, but you should always get a back-up source of data once you get the general idea of what you're looking for.

Because anyone can edit it, so much so that you could edit Wikipedia to say just about anything you like - then attempt to source it.
