Simply Ads and at the beginning it was the most famous also ms office (which works now on Mac and Linux also(using Playonlinux).

Because many computer manufacturers install it onto their computers.

The average computer user is very computer illiterate. Most don't know about linux.

Most don't use Mac because Apple only allows it to run on Apple computers (although you can get it to run on non-apple hardware, the hardware choice is limited by motherboards people have got it to work on, and the process is too complex for most people), and the average person is too poor to afford a Mac.

Windows is the easiest choice to get for a lot of people, even if those people would have had a better experience with a different operating system.

Also while getting Mac to run on non-Apple hardware is a struggle (and it's illegal), Apple has made it so Windows can run natively on Mac's alongside Mac or you can have a Mac completely without Mac, or you can run it inside Mac. You can also run it inside Linux.

But Linux can be run inside Windows.

It's a matter of people not being able to afford a Mac, and not being aware of the existence of Linux.
