because windows is much more efficient and DOS is basically this old programming thing

A real answer:Windows is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) and was the program to introduce the mouse to millions of Microsoft computers.

DOS required remembering all the commands and typing them in. The help function was useful but Windows was an improvement.

What is the difference between graphics of dos and windows?

DOS is a command-line system that shows letters and commands rather than icons and menus, and Windows is a desktop environment use either on top of DOS or along with a newer, NT-based Windows operating system. There are programs for DOS that can enable graphics (like old video games), though these graphics are less advanced than in more modern versions of Windows.

Is Windows easier to use than MS-DOS?

That's debatable. As long as you know what directory the program you want to run is in and are a decent typist, you may be able to launch the application faster than you could in Windows. There is nothing inherently "hard" about typing a couple words to navigate directories and launch a program. The initial setup of an MS-DOS system is more difficult than that of Windows, but it not at all difficult to use. That was one of the reasons it remained in popular use long after Windows was released, and was still a popular platform for games until about 1997.

Why is DOS not popular nowadays?

There are several factors. First, many people find graphical user interfaces like those of Windows to be easier to use than the DOS command line. Second, Microsoft stopped developing for it, meaning newer versions of popular applications no longer ran on it. Third, as memory prices decreased, the increased overhead of running Windows instead of DOS was not as much of a performance penalty.

Why didn't Windows NT replace DOS. as originally planned?

Windows NT (New Technology) was released as a 32-bit operating system in 1993 with the goal of replacing the aging MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) as the primary operating system for personal computers. However, it did not fully replace DOS for several reasons: Compatibility: Windows NT was not fully compatible with older software and hardware that was designed for MS-DOS, making it difficult for businesses and individuals to switch. Market share: MS-DOS had a significant market share and was widely used, making it difficult for Microsoft to convince users to switch to the new system. Cost: Windows NT was more expensive than MS-DOS, which was a barrier for many individuals and businesses. Performance: Windows NT was designed as a more secure and robust operating system, but it was also slower and required more resources than MS-DOS. As a result, MS-DOS remained in use for several years after the release of Windows NT, and Windows NT evolved into what is now known as Windows 10, which is the current version of the Windows operating system.

Which operating system are DOS applications more likely to work under Winodws 2000 or Windows XP?

Both Windows XP and Windows 2000 are variants of the Windows NT operating system which has no native DOS running "under the hood". Windows XP has better compatibility support for most legacy applications in general, however. A better option is to use a DOS virtual machine to run your legacy DOS applications, as almost all DOS functionality will be replicated in the virtual machine. The downside to this approach is performance of the DOS application, which in the case of games, can be significantly degraded. An example of an excellent DOS virtual machine is DOSBox. It is free and has much wider support for legacy DOS applications than does any modern Windows Operating System

When did Microsoft first sell Windows?

Why are Macintosh computers less popular than Windows computers?

Macintosh computers were around when Microsoft was still on the DOS operating system. They achieved popularity in the early 1990s because DOS was so hard to use and required so much training and expertise. Microsoft was the bigger company, when Windows was released, most software was written for that operating system. People bought the operating system with which their desired software was compatible. Therefore the Windows system became more popular than the Macintosh system. Apple's refusal to allow other companies to produce Macintosh computers has also contributed, because any computer manufacturer can make computers, buy copies of Windows, and sell computers loaded with Windows. In addition, Macs are generally more stable than PCs as well as being more or less 98% immune to viruses.
