It means no run was scored from a particular delivery. The term originates from cricket scoring notation, where instead of a number when runs are scored, a small dot would be written instead to indicate that delivery resulted in no run.
In the traditional scoring system, a dot was used to indicate a ball whereby no run has been scored.
Unlucky
Ok you've got this wrong. There are 6 balls in an over, each ball that doesn't have a run scored off it is called a dot ball, this is because it goes down in the score book as a dot. If the are no runs score off the entire over then it is called a maiden.
yes
it depends.if ... the bowler bowls it and the batsman misses the ball and the keeper also misses it and the batsman make a run then they (the runs) are called byes.
Extra
There are three types of no balls in cricket over steping, ball on the face called beamer, more than two bouncers in over
if a batsman is out without scoring, then it is called a DUCK.... and if he is out on the 1st ball that he faced then it is called as a GOLDEN DUCK..
only run out and stumpping
A century.
Not out. Only way to get batsman out when a no ball is thrown is run out.
