Black panthers are not a species; they are 'normal' panthers who just have been born with a differently-colored coat; a bit like the opposite of albino.

Most do very well with this coat. A lot of black panthers are found in tropical forests where black is an excellent camouflage color if you want to lurk in the shade to catch a prey. Zoos like to breed black panthers because their public usually thinks they are exiting to look at.
