Some doctors prefer to do this screening with a colonoscope, which allows them to see the entire colon (certain patients, such as those with Crohn's colitis or ulcerative colitis, must be screened with a colonoscope).

Polyps can be removed through the colonoscope, and samples of tissue (biopsies) can be taken to detect the presence of cancerous cells
Endoscopeendoscope, colonoscope, cystoscope, laparoscope or arthroscope.
A colonscopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to look at the lining of your large bowel (colon and rectum) inflammation signs of some sort of cancer.
To take a colon biopsy using biopsy forceps, the physician first inserts a colonoscope into the rectum and advances it through the colon to the area of interest. Once the targeted tissue is visualized, the biopsy forceps are deployed through the colonoscope. The forceps are then closed to grasp a small sample of the colon tissue and retracted into the scope. Finally, the biopsy sample is retrieved for pathological examination.
