Will mercury show conduction or convection when heated?

Mercury, when in its liquid state, can transfer heat through both thermal conduction and convection. The expansion of mercury when heated is the basis for its use in thermometers. As with any material that expands when heated, it becomes less dense. As a liquid, a warm dense region is buoyant and will induce convection. In restricted geometries, convection is restricted and small, so this is not likely to happen much in a thermometer. Also, as a material that conducts electricity, it will be a good conductor of heat through the mechanism of thermal conduction which is enhanced by the electronic properties.
