Well, Chinese people believed the dragon was a all-powerful, but kind god, and they also believed that the dragons made it rain to help grow a good harvest. The dragon became a sign of power. When the emperor ruled wisely, the dragon sewed on his robe would help protect him and his people, but that's just Chinese culture.
