Their were also African American slaves but they didn't count to their owners. To answer your question that was first mine middle class people consisted of farmers (working on their own land), craft workers, blacksmith's and some tradespeople. yes, there was large undistribution of wealth in the U.S during the great depression. Some people had a good amount of money, while most other citizens had nothing and did anything they could just to get by. Due to people not having money, they couldn't buy any good and this left businesses with large amounts of surpluses.
