I think you mean caribou, not moose. The caribou is traditionally on the Canadian quarter and is a common animal to see in the Rockies, an in northern parts of many of the provinces.

The caribou was hunted by First Nations tribes before the white man stepped foot on what is now Canadian soil. Much like the bison out west, they made clothing from the hide, weapons and tools from the bones, and ate the meat.

It is part of our heritage, and Canadians are big on honouring the past.

Actually the questioner was asking about moose, not caribou. Moose aren't really the symbol of Canada, but it is an animal that is very often thought by most people to only exist in Canada. Canada is the only country with the largest population of moose in existence, and when you come north up to Canada, there's a high chance you may come across a moose some time or other--if you're in the back woods of Canada long enough!
