I believe it comes from inexperienced raising & handling of the breed. If handled correctly, I don't believe there should be a problem. Any dog, encouraged to be mean, or antagonized can become aggressive.
American bull dogs like pit bulls are in the bull breeds category. If you raise them properly they will be good dogs.
Well, in a fight between the two, a bobcat is a gentle creature while a pit bull is the third most aggressive dog in the world! So, a pit bull could chase off a bobcat no matter what.
This is what many different campaigns in the UK are currently trying to do. For a start, raise and own well-behaved and non-aggressive Pit Bull's and be a responsible owner. It is very hard to stop other Pit Bull owners being irresponsible, but lead a good example. This will show people that not all Pit Bull's are aggressive, and not all Pit Bull's have irresponsible owners. Besides this, you could join a campaign to end breed stereotyping. Blame the deed, not the Breed!

A pit bull
Any dog can be aggressive, but Pit Bull's get lots of stereotype - more than any other breed. If raised around people and with other dogs, there is no reason why a Pit Bull should be violent. Blame the deed, not the Breed!
No. Ear clipping won't cause aggression. It's merely a cruel cosmetic procedure.
