A sword is considered the most important weapon to a knight because it is versatile, allowing for both offensive and defensive maneuvers in battle. It is also a symbol of status and honor, reflecting the knight's code of chivalry. Additionally, swords were commonly used for personal combat and dueling, which were integral aspects of medieval knighthood.

You have made a false assumption, since a sword was notthe most important weapon of a knight. The sword and spurs represented his noble status, but in terms of weaponry the spear or lance was by far the most important weapon for a mounted man.

A spear or lance can kill or disable an opponent at a distance, keeping him away from the knight's immediate location. This gives the knight an advantage, particularly if the opponent is on foot or has no pole weapon. A knight would only use his sword as a last resort, since the advantage is immediately lost and both combatants are on equal terms - the fight becomes a slogging match with the great risk of both men being severely injured.

Swords could not cut through mail or plate armour - their only use was as bludgeoning weapons to try to break the bones beneath, which takes enormous effort and strength. A knight would quickly become very tired after a short time delivering such blows.

It's not, the brain is the most important weapon for any warrior. Without it they'd be a vegetable.
