The Advent wreath has a lot of symbolism. The circle representing God, with no beginning and no end, the evergreen leaves representing eternal life, even the prickliness of the leaves is meant to remind us of the crown of thorns Christ wore when he was crucified.

The Advent Wreath was originally a Lutheran tradition which marks the four weeks of Advent. Made of evergreen branches layed horizontally, is had four candles representing the weeks. We use the Advent Wreath today but it is refered to as a Christmas wreath.
