There could be a number of reasons for this... electrical fault, faulty compressor clutch, low pressure in the AC system due to a leak or blockage in the system, faulty low pressure switch....
The last one is the one to check first. You simply unplug the wire from the accumulator, and jump a wire between the two contacts. If your compressor clutch engages, then the low pressure switch is operating as it's supposed to. If it doesn't, then you have a bad low pressure switch.
