because they have it in alot of places and are not reall useful
Aluminium is produced by electrolysis of the mineral bauxite. In Napoleonic times there was no cheap electricity :P Aluminum metal was rare because the Hall-Heroult process of running electricity through molten cryolite had not been discovered yet. Aluminum could only be produced with very small yield before this. Aluminum compounds such as bauxite are plentiful, but it is incredibly rare to find ores containing elemental aluminum.
- aluminium is cheap- aluminium has a low density- aluminium is not easy corrodable- aluminium has convenable thermal and electrical coductivities
Because it is cheap and lightweight.
Cheap Aluminium
Aluminium is processed at Awarua, near Bluff Harbour, from bauxite ore sourced from Wepia in Queensland. To do the refining, a lot of electricity is needed, and a tunnel was dug from Lake Manapouri to Deep Cove in Doubtful Sound, and this is hydro is used to generate cheap electricity.
Aluminium is a) strong b) light c) fairly cheap d) not a terrible conductor of electricity. It's much stronger, lighter, and cheaper than any material that conducts electricity significantly better than aluminium does. Why is that important?Well, if you're making wires for long-distance power transmission, having the wires be strong and light means you can put the towers further apart, which is a significant savings. In fact, aluminium is SO light that you can make the wire thicker (which makes it even stronger), and since power-carrying-capacity increases with increased cross-sectional area, the fact that it doesn't conduct as well as, say, copper becomes less important. And aluminium is so much cheaper than copper that even the thicker aluminium wire is cheaper than a copper wire of the same carrying capacity.
It is a good conductor of heat, it is cheap and light
An aeroplane body is made up of an alloy (meaning: mixture of metals) of aluminium and copper. This is as aluminium is very light and cheap, but it needs copper as aluminium is too brittle. This way the plane have a weight of aluminium but the felexibility of copper!
Yes.
One can find the cheap electricity for businesses by getting a quote from companies such as uSwitch. uSwitch compares the prices from all electricity suppliers available in the area, taking into account the amount of electricity used.
Aluminium is cheap, is not toxic, has a low density, it is not corroded in air.
