Some religions believe it is harmful to the body and they believe that is a sin. However, I don't believe that anything but the ears should be pierced and only twice at the most. Note: Traditionally almost all religions embrace most forms of body modification and even in the Christian Bible there are texts that tell of willing amputation as acceptable under Christ. The meaning of these texts could be construed in many ways, but if taken literally they are "Gods" way of condoning self-amputation. So I don't think piercing is bad, but it does depend on what your purposes are.
