Best Answer

Cal is probably best known for his early '70's hit songs, Country Bumpkin, The Lord Knows I'm Drinkin' and It's Time to Pay the Fiddler. He also had a hit with Drinking Champagne in 1969.

In the sixties, Cal was an integral part of Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours. He was the front-man and played rhythm guitar behind the all-time greatest ET band: Buddy Emmons on steel, Jack Greene on drums and Leon Rhodes on guitar.

Cal's biggest hits as a solo artist were on Decca but he made some excellent recordings for Kapp Records in the late '60's.
