As for "why is caring important" in general I would say because it ensures relationships between people (a crucial element to life), it is the expression of sympathy (so without caring no one would want to help anyone) and it motivates people to do the things they do. (for example: firefighters put out fires because they care for the people it will effect, police officers catch criminals because they care for the well being of society...)
