Current is not scalar. Current is a vector quantity. For simplicity, in electric circuits, current is scalar because the direction is assumed to be one way or another, rather than three dimensional.

Electrical current is the amount of charge passing through a given area per second (dQ/dt). As only the movement perpendicular to the area is important, there are only two possible directions (+ or -)

A vector has both magnitude and direction..Current density has a flow of direction because it has velocity,so current density is a vector quantity..
