Greece and Rome for sure. Greece had a direct democracy, and Rome had a representative democracy. Rome's form of democracy was a Republic. A Republic is the kind of government to we use in the USA today.
Peaceful Athens exist today because the type of government is democracy and Sparta is oligarchy and democracy went on but not oligarchy. We still have the type of government democracy today.

The government started out by having a few rich men lead their city-state. But later that switched to democracy. A government ruled by the people. Today in America we still use this form of government.
