Ethyl alcohol (C3C2OH) known as ethanol in the IUPAC nomenclature is called grain alcohol as it is traditionally produced for distillation to pure alcohol by the fermentation of grain derived sugars.
The name separates it from methyl alcohol (C3OH) called methanol which is derived from the fermentation of cellulose as is sometimes called wood alcohol.
Ethyl alcohol or ethanol is mainly prepared by fermentation of various sugars and sometimes from starchy grains like barley, etc. That's why ethanol is sometimes referred to as 'grain alcohol'. For example, ethanol used in beer is extracted from barley. :)
Drinking Alcohol is known as Ethanol because it contains two carbons and an alcohol group,
The two carbons give it the eth- prefix and the alcohol group gives it the suffix -ol
Ethanol, CH3CH2OH, is cane sugar alcohol also called ethyl alcohol. It is the alcohol present in alcoholic beverage's.
Denatured alcohol.
Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is a fuel made by fermentation or the substitution of ethylene. It is described as a "biofuel" by proponents when it is made from corn, grain, sugar or cellulose, it can also be made by industrial process as a by-product or major product.
Here is a short answer: an ethanol molecule is made of two carbon atoms, one oxygen atom, and six hydrogen atoms. The short chemical formula is then C2H60. The chemical formula CH3CH2OH is more descriptive, because it conveys the information that at one end of the molecule there is a carbon atom with bonds to three hydrogens, while at the other end there is an OH (hydronium) group. Between the ends is a single CH2 set. A fuller discussion of ethanol on Wikipedia is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol
Ethanol is a pure substance, but it is rare to encounter it pure. Laboratory alcohol usually contains small amounts of water and methanol. Alcoholic drinks contain large quantities of water, as well as flavourings.
Called Grain Alcohol, drinking alcohol, ethyl alcohol or pure alcohol
Ethyl alcohol, also called Ethanol
Yes. Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol,
Ethanol is also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid.
The name is ethanol and it si also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol.
Grain neutral spirits is ethanol and water.
The grain alcohol itself is a compound, Ethanol but, it is always found in a mixture with water, making it a solution.
it is ethanol - a compound
Grain alcohol is a compound known as ethanol and so is a pure substance, but it is almost never found in pure form.
While diesel engines do use fuel with the highest percentage of ethanol (Grain alcohol), they do not use 100% ethanol.
Grain alcohol is ethanol made from fermenting grain. Depending on its intended use, it is sold diluted with a specific amount of water. If it is not intended for human consumption (drinking) but is intended as a solvent, fuel or some industrial use, something is added to it to make it poisonous and it is called denatured alcohol. Once denatured, it can no longer be made safe to drink by normal means.
Grain alcohol is made from a food product such as corn or wheat. It is what is most commonly consumed. Wood alcohol is (obviously) made from wood and is fatally poisonous to humans. Ethanol (grain alcohol) is also deadly, if you drink enough!
