change the oxygen sensor and remove the positive battery terminal for two-three minutes to let the computer reset. This allows the computer to recalibrate for the new sensor. You might have to drive for a while for the "cycle" to complete. That's it.

I have an 01 Pontiac sunfire and I have noticed that the check gages light comes on when the gas is low. I have never seen any other indicator come on for low fuel.
You could be having a problem with your spark plugs and your dashboard is alerting you. You should have a mechanic check it out.
