That is a good question...From the Gospels we can see that often faith is the assurance that God is good and cares for us, to the point where you act on that conviction. IT is also the highest use of our mind, where it takes it to that point past which it cannot see but it knows that what is said is true. Some things by their very nature are above our capacities in this life yet they are important. For instance, Judgment, Heaven, Hell, What God requires of us, etc.
