fashion defines what people like to see on other people. it is common for people to judge a person based on the way they look and decide how to act to that person based on what they see. fashion is important to people who want to be popular or to find a mate (in which case, if your face looks pretty enough, sometimes people don't care what you are wearing). in a way, however, although people who focus on becoming popular feel that fashion is important, there is a growing trend in America to say you don't care what people think.
