Ganymede isn't "hidden"; it is just too close to Jupiter to see it without a telescope.

When Galileo pointed his telescope at Jupiter, he was astonished to find four other small things that appeared to stay close to Jupiter. They were named Ganymede, Callisto, Europa and Io, and are sometimes called the "Galilean moons". Day by day, you can see them orbiting Jupiter, their positions different each day.
