Because it doesn't react with water or oxygen it doesn't tarnish and doesn't lose it's shine over time. It isn't all that heavy and it isn't very reactive!

It is a strong metal that does not react with a substance that i know of ( it does not rust or tarnish and is attacked by chlorine, fluorine, aqua regia and cyanide.
