Harriet Tubman was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Union spy during the American Civil War.
After escaping from slavery, into which she was born, she made 13 missions to rescue more than 70 slaves using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She later helped John Brown recruit men for his raid on Harpers Ferry, and in the post-war era struggled for women's suffrage.
Harriet Tubman became popular because she helped Africans like her escape from America to Canada. She did this with the help of the Under Ground Railroad, which is a company that helps free Africans from slavery.
She was a Union spy and because of her involvement in the Underground Railroad. She risked beign put back into slavery so others could be freed.
Harriet Tubman was a "Moses" to her people. She is well known for leading over 300 slaves to freedom. Harriet Tubman is one of the most famous Women in History.
