Because helium has completely filled orbitals as do all the elements in the last column (group 18 elements or noble gases).
Lower the steering colunm. the ignition switch is located on the top of the steering column about 6 inches from the firewall.
Look directly under the steering colunm in the passenger compartment... should be located just under the dash.

disconnect all electrical connectors under steering colunm. remove bolt from steering shaft and slide shaft apart. pop the shift cable off. remove the four bolt holding the colunm to the dash and remove the colunm. under the ignition switch will be a hole, with the key in the run position stick a small Phillips or what works best is a 20 torx screw driver into the hole and remove the ignition switch. follow proceedure for new colunm.
The turn signal flasher is under the instrument panel to the left of the sterring colunm brace. (note I'm still looking for mine).
